Water boatmen are a bug that’s commonly found in Miami pools. If you have a lot of these bugs around, then it’s likely that you have algae in your pool because algae is a boatmen’s primary source of food. To get rid of these bugs and prevent them from coming back, you’ll have to eradicate the algae and properly maintain your pool.
Getting Rid of Water Boatmen
To get rid of boatmen in your pool take the following steps:
Step 1: Remove the bugs from the pool with a skimmer.
Step 2: Manually vacuum the pool to remove as much sediment and debris as you can.
Step 3: Brush the pool to loosen any algae.
Step 4: Test the water to make sure the pH and alkalinity are where they’re supposed to be and make adjustments if necessary.
Step 5: Shock the pool using at least double the dose as you normally would.
Step 6: To get the shock evenly distributed run the pump for at least 8 hours, preferably overnight.
Step 7: Before resuming swimming, test the water to make sure chlorine levels have returned to normal.
